This problems happen to me when I'm using Google-Chrome for the reason maybe the chrome not validating the session right. Even you disconnect and relogin the session won't update. The only better way to solve this is to wait till you have a new session or clear all your cookies. Firefox doesn't have this issue but if it has just clear your private data and it will solved the issue.
Managing and building Mafia Wars is truly a labor of love for our team. We spend countless hours thinking of ways to make Mafia the best game possible. But more often than not, we take a cue from our community on what features or aspects of the game we should improve. For instance, many of you have been telling us that you wish Mafia Wars performed faster with less latency. We listened and as was detailed last week, we released a faster version of Mafia Wars. With that particular release, we needed to add a cookie to your browser to make it function securely and prevent possible fraud. This was a tradeoff we needed to make - faster with a cookie or keep it status quo. While some of you are suspicious or upset about this, rest assured that this was something we did for your own safety. It is NOT spyware.
Related to the recent fix, we are also aware that some of you are having trouble accessing or playing the game. We are working on these issues and will get them fixed shortly. In fact, we set up a dedicated email address (mwsupport@zynga.com) that you can contact so we can get you back up and running and playing Mafia Wars as soon as possible.
